In this tutorial we will create a 1024 x 768 pixels wallpaper, if you would like a 800 x 600 pixels wallpaper use the instructions for the sizes in red
Instructions:
Open a new image of 1024 x 768 pixels (800 x 600) , color: #353535. Rc.: All. Change to your Transform Tool and click the Selection button on the Attribute Toolbar. Make sure the lock is open and resize the selection to a height of 350 300 pixels like so:

Convert to Object and Align: Center Vertically. Fill with #c0c0c0. Keep selected. In the Menu bar: Edit: Trace Edges - Selection Marquee. Accept the default settings. PhotoImpact will change to the Path Drawing Tool. In the Attribute Toolbar change the Mode from Horizontal Deform to Selection:

Rc.: Expand/Shrink. Expand the selection with 2 pixels. Rc.: Export Selection - New Image. PI will create a new image as a grayscale mask with the original selection. All you see is a blank canvas though. Minimize it. Rc.: None. Keep your lighter grey object selected. Open the wd-peony (wd-peony2) jpg from the download. Rc.: Copy and close it. On your working image: Edit - Paste - Fit into Selection. Keep selected. Change to your Paintbrush: Size 1. Color: #B20024 and in the Attribute Toolbar use these settings:

Menu bar: Effect - Creative - Paint on Edges. Repeat this effect. Deselect. Import Selection. Expand the selection with 6 pixels. Convert to Object and fill with #DC2582. Keep selected. Menu bar: Effect - Fills & Textures - Texture Filter. At the bottom select the second thumbnail (1) on the top row (Effect: Embossed). Click the small arrow on top of the window (2) to open the menu and click: Select Texture. Select a texture of your choice. I used the vertical lines (emboss009.bmp) and with these settings (3). Click OK - Apply Current Frame Effect to Image:

Repeat the Paint on Edges Effect twice. Keep selected. Rc.:Select All Objects. Merge as a Single Object and Deselect.

Now we are going to make a 10 (8) pixel high bar to put above and below the center image. Import Selection. Transform Tool. Press the selection button again and change the height of the selection to 10 (8). Change to the Pick Tool and using the Down Arrow key ↓ on your keyboard move the selection down to about the center of the large peony photo. Change to the Selection Tool and in your Layer Manager select the layer with the peony object. Press the Select on Object button and Convert to Object. Using the Up Arrow key ↑ move the object above the main image leaving a bit of grey background between them. Keep selected. Effect: Simple - Quick Tile. Keep selected. Web: Button Designer - Any Shape - Set the Bevel Size to 2. Duplicate this piece and move it beneath the main object. Select All Objects. Align: Space Evenly - Vertically with these settings:

Keep selected. Rc.: Group. Align - Center Vertically. Deselect. Your image should look similar to this:

Now it is time to get rid of that grey background. With your Base Image selected: Menu bar - Edit - Fill - Gradient tab. Fill with a gradient using #E354A7 and #AE011D with these settings:

Menu bar: Photo - Noise - Add Noise - Options:

(Note: Be patient with the following step and make sure you have saved your work. PhotoImpact needs some time to render this effect).
Menu bar: Effects - Artistic - Weave using these settings:

Menu bar: Photo - Sharpen - Emphasize Edges - Options:

Menu bar: Effect - Lighting - Lights - Options: In the left preview pane move the light a bit to the left (1), change the color to #E354A7 with these settings (3):

With a font of your choice, add a greeting or just some text to your image.

You are done. Merge All. If you are going to use it as a wallpaper for your dekstop, don't optimize it yet. Save as a jpg. For sharing on the board resize the image to 50% (65%) and on the Menu bar: Photo - Focus - Options - Auto-adjust.

That is all, I hope you have enjoyed this tutorial as much as I liked writing it for you.
