(Can be done with earlier versions).

Description: Some modern digital cameras have a special setting for making photos in sepia. If your camera does not have that option, you can use PhotoImpact to create that effect.
Author: Wouter Démoet.
Terms of Use: Please read
Skill Level: Beginner. I assume you know where the tools are in PhotoImpact.
Additional Files: A photo, a mask, the Elegance font and a corner of your choice or you may use mine. The corner I used is by Laura. She has a lot of PhotoImpact Goodies on her site and you can visit her site here: Laura's Addiction. Thank you so much for sharing, Laura.

You will also need the Xero Fritillary filter, I added it to the zipfile as there are no restrictions for distributing it. Please download all the materials for this tutorial.

If you need help with installing the Fritillary filter, please use Debbie's tutorial.

NOTE: Save your work often. I suggest you read the entire tutorial, before you start. Where it reads "Rc" in this tutorial, it means right click. And if you need help, or if you have any suggestions, please don't hesitate to contact me at: wouter@demoet.nl
Instructions:
Install the Fritillary filter (fritillary.8bf) and open the Elegance font by clicking on it and minimize the font and restart your copy of PhotoImpact. Open the wd-rose and the wd-sepia-mask images. Minimize the mask. Ctrl+D to duplicate the photo and close the original. Set your foreground color to: #6C5448 and your background color to: #D8B6A3

In the Menu bar go to Photo - Enhance - Duotone Effect. Put a checkmark in the Enable sepia effect. Rc. on the left color box (not the arrow). and select your dark foreground color. Using the color box on the right, Rc. and select your lighter background color. No other settings should be changed.

The re-coloring of the photo made it a bit unsharp, so let's go to Photo in the Menu bar - Focus - Options and check the Auto-adjust button.

Right click on your sepia image and select: Import Selection. In the new box that opens you will see the wd-sepia-mask.

Click OK and then Rc.: Convert to Object and Deselect. In the Layer Manager the Base image should be selected. We need to Blur that background a bit. In the Menu bar go to - Photo - Blur - Gaussian Blur - Options. Set the Radius to: 15.

Now we will apply the Fritillary filter. In the Menu bar go to Effects - Xero - Fritillary and apply the default settings.

We will continue with making a frame for this image. As the image is already quite big, we won't expand our canvas, but we will make the frame using the borders of the image. With your Base image still selected, Rc.: All. Rc.: Expand/Shrink. Shrink the selection with 20 pixels.

Rc.: Border. Create a border of 1 pixel - Inward like so:

Rc.: Convert to Object. In the Menu bar - Edit - Fill - Color tab. Right click on the color box and select your dark foreground color:

Deselect.
Rc.: All. Rc.: Expand/Shrink. Shrink the selection with 20 pixels. Rc.: Border. Create a border of 19 pixels - Outward like so:

Convert to Object and Fill it with your lighter background color. Deselect. Rc.: All. Rc.: Border. Create a 2 pixel border - Inward. Convert to Object and fill with your darker foreground color:

Rc.: Arrange - Bring to Front and Deselect. In you Layer Manager select the 19 pixel lighter colored border:

Rc.: Shadow with these settings:

Deselect.

Open the laura corner ufo from the download and select. Drag it to the left top corner of your image and place it like this: (Maybe you need to zoom in a bit)

In your Layer Manager Rc. on the corner layer and select Duplicate. Change to the Transform Tool and Flip the corner Horizontally.

Using the Right Arrow key on your keyboard move the coner to the corresponding top right part of the image. Press the Control button on your keyboard and select both corner layers and Rc.: Group.

Keep selected and Rc.: Duplicate. Flip this Group Vertically and Rc.: Align: Bottom. With your Up Arrow Key move it in the correct position.

Change to your Text Tool, find the Elegance font - 2D - Color: Foreground color - Size: 48. Type a text of your choice. I did not add any shadow to my text this time.

To bring some contrast into the picture, I clicked Photo in the Menu bar - Light - Brightness & Contrast and clicked on the last thumbnail of the second row.
Add your watermark or signature. Merge All and Optimize and Save your work.
