| Additional Files: an image, the Coventry Garden font and a gold fill pattern. The image is from a © Free Dover Sampler Please download the three files here. Put the unzipped folder on your desktop. We will save to this folder when we finish each part of this tutorial. |

It will give you an idea on how the total image was composed and it will help you following all the steps. Take your time for it

| Instructions for Part 1: Preparing the clipart image |

| Don't forget to save your work often. ;-) Open the image that you downloaded, make a duplicate and close the original. Take your Magic Wand from the Tool Panel. Please use these settings: ![]() Click the Options button and make sure that Anti-alias is checked. Click on the white background of the image and click again on the white space between her arm and the dress. All of the white background should be selected now. Right click and select: Expand/Shrink and expand your selection with 1 pixel. Right click again and: Invert. Now the lady object is selected. Right click again: Convert to Object. At this point you may want to add the object to one of your EasyPalette libraries so you can use it again in the future. Right click on your foreground color box in the Tool Panel and select: Color on Screen and select a darker red from the dress. I am using: #991f21 Right click on your background color box in the Tool Panel and select: Color on Screen and select a lighter red from the dress. I am using: #c3544b Save your image as an ufo file to your desktop folder where the other images are. Part one of this tut is ready.
