Description: Create a beautiful card, using a Dover Clipart Image.

Skill Level: Beginner. I assume you know where the tools are in PhotoImpact.
Additional Files: A mask, a velvet fill and a velvet fill of your choice or you may use mine.
Please download all the materials for this tutorial.

NOTE: Save your work often. I suggest you read the entire tutorial, before you start. Where it reads "Rc" in this tutorial, it means right click. And if you need help, or if you have any suggestions, please don't hesitate to contact me at: wouter@demoet.nl
Instructions:
Open the wd-seascape-dovermask file. Open a new black image. In the box that opens check the Active Image radio button:


Rc.: Import Selection. In the box that opens, you will see the mask, click OK.


Close the mask. Rc.: Invert. Rc.: Convert to Object. Keep Selected. In the Menu bar: Edit - Fill - Image tab - File. Browse to the folder with your downloaded materials and click the wd-silver image. Make sure that Tile the Image is checked.




Deselect. Minimize this image for now. Open a new white image of 575 x 450 pixels. Menu bar: Edit - Fill - Image tab - File. Browse to your folder with materials and click the wd-velvet file. Make sure that Tile the Image is checked. Rc.: All. Rc.: Expand/Shrink. Shrink the selection with 64 pixels. Shape: Circle. (you will see a rectangle though)


Rc.: Expand/Shrink and Shrink the selection with another 64 pixels. (So in total you shrink the selection with 128 pixels). Rc.: Soften. Soften the selection with 150 pixels.


Menu bar: Photo - Light - Brightness & Contrast. Gamma: 1.50. This action will create a lighter spot on your background.


Rc.: Merge.
Rc.: All. Rc.: Border. Create a 22 pixel border Inward.


Convert to Object. Menu bar: Photo - Light - Brightness & Contrast - Gamma: 1.25. Deselect.
Rc. All. Rc.: Expand/Shrink. Shrink the selection with 22 pixels. Rc.: Border: 1 pixel Outward this time. Convert to Object. Rc.: Arrange - Bring to Front and fill it with the silver. Deselect.



Change to your Text Tool. Font: Arial. Size:18. Colour: White. Mode: 2D. Border: None. We will make a corner object.


Select and copy the following line of text from this tutorial:

Click on your image in PI and Rc.: Paste.


Keep selected. Rc.: Duplicate. Using theTransform Tool, rotate this object 90 degrees to the right. In your Layer Manager with pressing the Ctrl key, select both text objects. Rc.: Align: Top. Keep selected. Rc.: Align: Right.


Rc. Merge as a Single Object and put in place like so:


Keep selected. Fill the corner with silver. Keep selected. Rc.: Shadow with these settings:


Rc.: Duplicate. Using the Transform Tool, flip this object Horizontally. Using the Arrow keys on your keyboard, move this corner object to the top left corner of your image. Keep selected. Select the 2 corner objects. Duplicate. Flip Vertically and put in place at the bottom of the image using the Arrow keys. Select all 4 corner pieces. merge as a Single Object and Rc.: Align: Center Both.




Open the Dover seascape image we minimized before, select it and copy. You may close this image. On your working image, Rc.: Paste. Keep selected and Rc.: Align: Center Vertically. Rc.: Shadow with the Default settings. Rc.: Merge All.

Press Shift+N to expand your canvas. Expand your canvas with 2 pixels, colour: white. Expand sides equally: checked. Rc.: All. Rc. Border. Create a 2 pixel border Inward. Convert to Object and Fill with silver. Deselect. Add another border of 1 pixel. Colour: Black. Merge All.

Using a font of your choice add a greeting or quote to your card. Fill with silver and Align: Center Vertically. Add a shadow with the same settings as we used for the corner piece. Add your name or watermark to the card, Merge All. Optimize and save your work.
