Description: Create a beautiful book using a mask and an object.

Skill Level: Intermediate. I assume you know where the tools are in PhotoImpact.
Additional Files: My mask, an object and a gold fill of your choice or you may use mine. Greg's Factory Output Volume 2 - Pool Shadow filter.
Please download all the materials for this tutorial.

NOTE: Save your work often. I suggest you read the entire tutorial, before you start. Where it reads "Rc" in this tutorial, it means right click. And if you need help, or if you have any suggestions, please don't hesitate to contact me at: wouter@demoet.nl
Instructions:
Open the wd-book-mask.jpg in PhotoImpact and minimize it. Open a new white image of 600 x 400 pixels. Rc.: Import Selection. Rc.: Store Selection. Rc.: Convert to Object and fill with #FFFFEB. Photo: Noise - Add Noise - Options. Distribution: Varied. Variance: 5. Monochromatic: Unchecked. Deselect. Rc.: Load Selection. Rc.: Border. Create a 1 pixel border Inward. Convert to Object. Rc.: Arrange - Bring to Front and fill with the gold fill from the download. Select All Objects and Merge as a Single Object. Photo: Focus - Options - Auto-adjust. Keep selected.

Rc.: Duplicate. Adust - Resize. Resize the duplicated object to 99%. Repeat Focus: same settings. Repeat duplicate, resize and focus untill you have 5 objects in your Layer Manager. Keep selected.


Your image will look similar to this:


Select All Objects. Rc.: Align - Center Both. Deselect.


Using your Ctrl key select 4 layers starting at the bottom of your Layer Manager like so: Don't select the top layer.


Merge as a Single Object. Keep selected. Photo: Light - Brightness & Contrast. Gamma: 0.8. Deselect.

Change to your Line & Arrow Tool. Color: #D5B853. Mode: 2-D. Line Width: 2. Line Style: Solid Line. With your Shift key pressed, draw a vertical line (about 350 pixels high) that fits between the two gold edges of the top object like this:


Rc.: Align - Center Horizontally and keep selected. In your Layer Manager set the Transparency to 50%. Deselect.

Change to your Path Drawing Tool. Shape: Circle. Mode: 2-D. Colour: Any for now. Draw a shape of about 15 x 15 pixels. Edit: Fill - Gradient tab with the colours #CCB75B and #FFFED4. Settings:


Duplicate this object twice for a total of 3. Select all these 3 objects. Rc.: Align: Space Evenly with these settings. (Don't worry if they disappear from your canvas).


Rc.: Merge as a Single Object.. Put them in place alongside your vertical line and Align: Center Vertically. Keep selected. Duplicate and put them in place at the other side of the line like so:


Select both rows of circles and the line. Rc.: Align: Space Evenly - Horizontally like so:


Keep selected and Merge as a Single Object. Deselect.

Using the Path Drawing Tool: Shape: Rectangle. Mode: 3D-Round. Colour: Any for now. Draw a shape of about 50 x 8 pixels. Open your EasyPalette - Galleries - Text/Path Effects - Material Attribute - Metallic and double click the Copper 3 Preset. Position it like so. If necessary adjust the width of your rectangle.


Duplicate this piece 2 times and put in place over the other 2 set of circles. (I prefer to use the Arrow keys on my keyboard for this action). Select the 3 rectangles and Merge as a Single Object. Shadow:


Select All Objects, Merge as a Single Object and Deselect.

Open the flower object from the download and position it on the right page. With a font of your choice and using a color from the flower object, put a quote or greeting on the left page of your book. If you feel like it add a nice shape from your Shape Library using the Path Drawing Tool. add your name or watermark.

When you are happy, select All Objects and Merge as a Single Object and Deselect
Using a colour from your flowers, I am using: #93392D, fill your Base Image and apply a texture of your choice. Select your book object and apply a shadow. Keep selected. Menu bar: Effects - Gregs Factory Output Volume 2 - Pool Shadow with these settings:


Merge All. Optimize and save your work. If you need to resize, don't forget to use the Focus command. Otherwise your image and gold will look dull.
